Muscle testing and applied kinesiology in Bloomington, MN

Muscle testing, also called applied kinesiology or muscle response testing, is a gentle, hands-on way to see how the body responds to specific supplements, foods, and stressors. Your protocol gets built around your responses, not a best guess.

You've been guessing at what your body needs. It's time to ask it directly.

Applied kinesiology, often called muscle testing, is a non-invasive biofeedback method that looks at how your body responds to different stimuli. It works by applying gentle pressure to a muscle, usually your extended arm, and watch how its response changes as different factors are introduced.

Those changes show how your body is responding, on physical, mental, and emotional levels. We use muscle testing alongside with your Bioenergetic Scan to navigate and fine-tune your personalized protocol, so every choice we make together has a reason behind it.

Sessions are available in person at our Bloomington office or virtually.

How does Muscle Testing work?

  1. Establish your baseline

While extending your arm gentle pressure is applied to establish your baseline strength. This shows how your body responds before any variable is introduced.

  2. Introduce variables

Once your baseline is established different variable are introduced, such as placing a supplement on or near your body, touching a specifice reflex point, or asking focused questions. Changes in strength provides feedback as to how your body responds.

  3. Build your protocol

The pattern of responses helps navigate which areas you may benefit from and which approaches your body responds to best. This guides and shapes your perrsonalized plan.

  4. Refine as you progress

At follow-up visits rechecking your body's responses helps us continue to refine and shift your protocol as your body changes.

Virtual sessions: For remote sessions, We use specialized remote kinesiology methods that don't require physical contact. Occasionally a surrogate may be used but our primary remote method doesn't need a surrogate.

Please note: Standard arm muscle testing can't be used if you have a current shoulder injury. Alternative methods using different muscle groups can gather the same information instead.

Session length: Sessions typically run 10 to 30 minutes, depending on how much we're assessing.

You're an active part of the session. You'll extend your arm in a specific position while gentle steady pressure is applied. It's comfortable and non-invasive, and most clients find it fascinating to feel the subtle changes in their own muscle response as we go.

Questions, answered

Yes. Bring the supplements you’re currently taking, and I can test how your body responds to each one. It’s one of the most common reasons clients come in.

No. Muscle testing isn’t an allergy test or a medical diagnosis, and it doesn’t replace allergy testing from your doctor. It shows how your body is responding to different foods and substances, which helps guide your wellness plan.

Muscle testing is one tool, not the whole picture. That’s why I never rely on it alone. I use it alongside your bioenergetic scan and your history, and your protocol is adjusted based on how your body actually responds over time.

No. In physical therapy, manual muscle testing grades strength for rehab. Naturopathic muscle testing uses changes in your muscle response as biofeedback to guide your wellness protocol.
